MIXED MEDIA

Recently, I’ve been making art with a variety of other materials—wood, cardboard, barbed wire, found images, glazed ceramics—which allows for a more playful approach. It often involves some form of three dimensional construction.

In response to the intensity of wildfires in our region since 2017, I’ve created the Disaster Box Series, using painted cigar boxes which open to reveal several moving layers of a miniature pop-up scene—such as a tornado disrupting a farm, a volcano erupting over a mountain village, a wildfire in a forest, or most recently a Covid-19 virus ball emerging out of a yellow Biohazard box—a way of laughing in the face of disaster.
